Chief Slayton: Violent/Property Crime Down in Auburn

Violent crime and property crime are both down in the City of Auburn.

At its October 5 City Council meeting, Auburn Police Chief James Slayton

“Total violent crime, which includes murders, rape, robbery, and aggravated assault, is down significantly over the past few years,” Slayton said, “and property crime, which is your burglary, larceny, motor vehicle thefts, is down about 50% on each compared to the last 10-5 years.”

Back in June, Auburn and Cayuga County agencies received state funding to combat violent crime. Two months later, the Auburn Police Department announced it’d be stepping up patrolling in “hot spots” throughout the city.
