Victim in Chemung County Fatal Kayaking Accident Identified

State Police have identified the man who died in a kayaking accident in Chemung County on Sunday.

44-year-old Shawn McWhorter, of Pine City, was kayaking with two other people when his kayak capsized on Seeley Creek in the town of Southport. McWhorter was eventually removed from the water and taken by Erway Ambulance to the Arnot Ogden Medical Center in Elmira where he was pronounced dead.

The two other individuals were able to make it to shore safely.
