Over 350 people have been arrested and over $100,000 worth of stolen property have been recovered as part of the New York State Police’s crackdown on organized retail theft.

The arrests are the result of the multi-agency crackdown on retail theft announced by Governor Kathy Hochul in February.

The initiative began on March 15 when troopers began increasing patrols in the highest-impacted areas identified by each troop. Actions also included intelligence gathering and coordination with the targeted retail businesses.

During the first 16 weeks of the initiative troopers accomplished the following:

  • Contacted 482 retail businesses.
  • Investigated 412 retail larceny complaints.
  • Conducted 237 dedicated retail theft enforcement details.
  • Arrested 359 people on 571 separate charges.
  • Recovered $101,000 of stolen property.
