One man is dead and a police canine is injured following a Wednesday incident in St Lawrence County.
According to State Police, an officer was fired upon while searching a wooded area in the Town of Russell just before 1 o’clock. A trooper then returned fire and the shooter was pronounced dead at the scene.
The dog was injured and taken to a veterinary hospital for treatment.
An investigation into the matter is ongoing.
