One man is dead after being shot during an altercation with state police on Wednesday in Orange County.

Police originally attempted to stop a man, believed to be named Ali Ali, while driving an allegedly stolen vehicle on the Thruway. The vehicle then crashed and caught fire at milepost 49, north of Exit 16 with Ali fleeing into the woods.

As Ali was believed to be armed and dangerous, nearby residents were urged to shelter in place while state and local police searched the area. At around 12:35p, trail cam footage revealed Ali was on Maplewood Drive in the Highland Mills area.
