State Police Issue More Than 13K Tickets During Thanksgiving Weekend

The New York State Police say they issued 13,036 tickets statewide during this year’s Thanksgiving holiday traffic enforcement period, which ran from Wednesday, November 26, through Sunday, November 30, 2025. The effort was funded by the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee.

During the campaign, Troopers conducted sobriety checkpoints, added extra DWI patrols, and targeted distracted drivers using handheld devices. In total, 247 people were arrested for DWI, and Troopers investigated 1,277 crashes, including two fatal crashes.

Troopers also focused heavily on speeding, aggressive driving, and seatbelt compliance. A sample of tickets issued includes:

  • Speeding: 4,454
  • Distracted Driving: 278
  • Seatbelt Violations: 1,108
  • Move Over Law: 243

Last year, during the 2024 Thanksgiving enforcement period, State Police issued 12,867 tickets and made 259 DWI arrests.
