State Police Identify Thruway Authority Worker Killed in Chili

State Police have identified the Thruway Authority worker who was struck by a tractor-trailer as it passed through a work zone last Thursday afternoon.

62-year-old Vincent Giammarva, of Leroy, was pronounced dead at the scene. A second worker, 58-year-old Mark Vara, of Scottsville, is listed in critical condition at Strong Memorial Hospital.

The accident happened in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 90 in the town of Chili as 64-year-old Thomas Lis, of Central Square, drove east through the work zone at around 12:30 on Thursday.

The investigation is ongoing and no charges have been filed.
