NY Assembly Budget Would Tax Streaming Services

Your streaming services may cost more if a proposal from the New York State Assembly is part of the final state budget.

Part of the assembly’s budget proposal suggests adding an eight percent sales tax to subscriptions like Netflix, Hulu, Spotify, and Audible. That revenue would be ear-marked for public transit.

The assembly estimates New York City’s Metropolitan Transportation Authority would get $63 million dollars in revenue by 2027.

The state budget is due on April first.
