Almost one month after he was sentenced to 20 years to life in state prison, a Rensselaer County man who admitted to raping and murdering a three-year-old girl he was babysitting in her home has died at the Elmira Correctional Facility.
Robert Fisher was pronounced dead early Tuesday morning. The manner in which he died has not been revealed. An autopsy will be performed by the Chemung County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Over the summer, Fisher pleaded guilty to raping and murdering Josefina “Josie” Cunningham. The 34-year-old admitted to drugging, sexually assaulting, and killing her in her Rensselaer home.
