A captain with the Glens Falls Fire Department has been arrested on felony and misdemeanor charges following an investigation by the New York State Police Special Investigations Unit.
On Tuesday, state police arrested Richard Stafford, 45, of Glens Falls, charging him with two counts of second-degree forgery and one count of petit larceny.
According to investigators, Stafford is accused of fraudulently writing and cashing two checks connected to the fire department’s union account and keeping the funds for personal use. At the time of the alleged offenses, Stafford was serving as secretary of the fire department union.
Stafford has been employed by the City of Glens Falls Fire Department for approximately 16 years. Officials said he is currently on paid administrative leave.
