A slight drop in gas prices to start off the week.
AAA reports the national average for a gallon of gas is $3.08, down one cent from last Monday. Last year, the national average was $3.32 per gallon. The New York average is $3.15, down a penny from last week. A year ago, the average price for gas in the Empire State was $3.62.
For drivers using diesel, the national average is $3.53 per gallon, down to cents from last Monday. The New York average is $3.87, with no change since last week.
AAA adds that the national average is under $0.10 from dropping below $3.00 per gallon for the first time since May 2021; however, a new hurricane forming in the Gulf of Mexico could delay or temporarily reverse that progress.
