A Weedsport man could spend the rest of his life in prison for sexually assaulting a child.

According to the Cayuga County District Attorney’s Office, Michael Peterson was sentenced Thursday to 14 years to life in prison for Predatory Sexual Assault Against a Child, a felony, and Endangering the Welfare of a Child, a misdemeanor.

On September 6, the 42-year-old admitted in court to sexually assaulting a girl under the age of 13 for approximately six years. His guilty plea to Judge Thomas Leone took place before the start of a jury trial.

The Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office investigated the crimes and Senior ADA Heather De Stefano handled the case.
