A Village of Newark man has been charged with a weapons offense following a traffic stop in the Town of Lyons.

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office says deputies stopped a vehicle on State Route 31 in Lyons, leading to the arrest of 41-year-old Shawn Carney of Willow Avenue in the Village of Newark.

Investigators allege Carney was found to be in possession of a switchblade knife during the investigation into a traffic violation. He was charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

Carney was processed and released on an appearance ticket. He is scheduled to appear in Lyons Town Court at a later date to answer the charge.
