Search of Ithaca Business Turns Up Stolen Jewelry, Illegal Pistol

An Ithaca man is facing multiple felonies after being caught with a handgun and stolen goods.

According to the Ithaca Police Department, officers were investigating a January 8 robbery where jewelry and collectibles were stolen from a residence in the city. Steven Gierlach was identified as a suspect

On March 8, police executed a search warrant at the 44-year-old’s place of business. The search turned up items reported stolen from the January 8 incident valued at over $1,000 and an illegally possessed handgun.

Gierlach was charged with one count each of Criminal Possession of a Weapon and Criminal Possession of Stolen Property. He was then arraigned in city court and taken to jail in lieu of bail.
