Ontario County Deputies arrested a Manchester man after a drone helped locate him hiding in a wooded area following a vehicle accident.

Last Saturday, deputies responded to the intersection of State Route 96 and Payne Road in the Town of Farmington at approximately 9:20 p.m. for a report of a vehicle in a ditch. Upon arrival, officers found the vehicle abandoned. A drone equipped with a thermal imaging camera was deployed to the scene and successfully located an individual standing in the woods nearby.

The individual was identified as Billy Rumsey, 55. Following an investigation, deputies determined that Rumsey was the operator of the vehicle and was allegedly impaired at the time of the crash. During a search, authorities also reportedly found numerous pills on his person.

Rumsey is charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree, Leaving the Scene of a Property Damage Accident, Failure to Maintain Lane, and Speed Not Reasonable and Prudent.

Rumsey was transported to the Ontario County Jail to await centralized arraignment. He is scheduled to answer the charges in Farmington Town Court at a later date.

The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
