A Penn Yan man is facing multiple charges following an alleged assault involving a juvenile that took place in the village earlier this year.

According to the Penn Yan Police Department, Christopher Shay has been charged in connection with an incident from the spring of 2025. Police allege that Shay placed a juvenile victim in a chokehold, causing the victim to lose consciousness.

As a result of the investigation, Shay was charged with Strangulation, Aggravated Family Offense, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, and Criminal Obstruction of Breathing or Blood Circulation.

Shay is scheduled to appear in Penn Yan Village Court at a later date to answer the charges.

The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
