On Friday, the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office arrested an Ontario man following an investigation into welfare fraud in the Town of Lyons.

Deputies arrested 60-year-old Eric Marino of Lake View Knolls in the Town of Ontario. Marino is accused of Welfare Fraud in the Third Degree, Grand Larceny in the Third Degree, and Offering a False Instrument for Filing in the First Degree.

The charges stem from an investigation conducted by the Wayne County Department of Social Services in conjunction with the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office. It is alleged that Marino failed to report income he was receiving from Uber while simultaneously receiving SNAP benefits from the Wayne County Department of Social Services. Authorities allege that Marino fraudulently received over $4,000 in benefits to which he was not entitled.

Marino was transported to the Wayne County Jail for processing and Centralized Arraignment on February 20. Deputies were assisted in the investigation by the Wayne County Department of Social Services.
