A Village of Newark man is facing several charges after deputies say a domestic dispute turned violent, with a child nearby.

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office reports 38-year-old Zackery Powell was arrested following an investigation into a domestic incident in the village. Deputies say Powell allegedly became physical with another person during the altercation, causing injuries, and that the incident happened in the presence of a child under 17.

He’s now charged with third-degree assault, criminal obstruction of breathing, and endangering the welfare of a child.

Powell was taken to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office for processing and then transported to the Wayne County Jail, where he’s being held pending CAP arraignment.

The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
