A Tennessee man is back in police custody in Wayne County following two warrant investigations that lasted nine months.

The two warrants were issued in April of 2023 that resulted from alleged domestic incidents that involved 38-year-old Matthew Merz. After the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office posted on its Facebook page that same month about Merz being wanted, deputies learned he had moved to Tennessee to live with family. Last month, Merz was located at his mom’s house by the Fentress County Sheriff’s Office and has been held in their custody until last Friday when local authorities flew to Tennessee to bring back Merz to New York.

Merz was sent to Wayne County Jail following his arraignment
