A joint investigation by the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office and the county’s Department of Social Services into a fraud complaint led to the arrest of a Lyons man on felony charges.

Jose Rodriguez was charged with grand larceny, welfare fraud, and offering a false instrument for filing, all felonies. The charges stem from an investigation into a fraud complaint and it is alleged that the 54-year-old, who was a recipient of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, failed to report the income he was receiving from his employer. As a result, Rodriguez fraudulently received a total of $4,289 in benefits he was not entitled to.

Rodriguez was released following his arraignment at the Wayne County Jail and is ordered to appear in court at a later date.

The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
