An Ithaca man is facing several felony drug charges after a joint traffic stop by the Ithaca Police Department and New York State Police.
According to authorities, on June 26th, officers conducting a Gun Involved Violence Elimination (GIVE) detail stopped a vehicle around 9:00 p.m. on North Titus Avenue near South Cayuga Street. During the stop, police identified the passenger, 31-year-old Michael Gilmore of Ithaca, as having an active probation violation warrant from the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office. He was taken into custody and turned over to deputies.
The driver, 45-year-old Albert Carthen, was found to be driving with a suspended license. A search of the vehicle before it was towed uncovered drugs and drug paraphernalia. Carthen was charged with two counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 2nd degree, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 3rd degree, and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 5th degree, all felonies. He was also charged with misdemeanor Criminal Use of Drug Paraphernalia and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.
Carthen was arraigned in Ithaca City Court before Judge Richard Wallace and was remanded to the Tompkins County Jail without bail.
