Inmate Found with Controlled Substance at Cayuga County Jail

A person incarcerated at the Cayuga County Jail is facing additional charges after being found with a controlled substance.

According to the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office, Diondrie Smith was arrested on January 10 after he was found to have a Schedule IV controlled substance while incarcerated at the Cayuga County Jail.

The 23-year-old was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance and Possession of Contraband in Prison.

The DEA defines Schedule IV substances as those with a low potential for abuse or dependence. Examples include Xanax, Valium, and Ambien.
