Fleming Accused of Burglarizing Aurelius Business

A Fleming man is facing charges after allegedly breaking into an Aurelius business.

According to the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to a business in the Town of Aurelius during the early morning hours of August 20 after a commercial burglar alarm was activated. Upon arrival, deputies reported finding Duane Lerkins Jr standing next to a U-Haul parked next to a warehouse on the property. The 52-year-old is alleged to have rented the U-Haul before breaking into the business to steal property inside.

Lerkins was arrested for Burglary and Grand Larceny. He was arraigned later that day and held at the jail without bail.
