A recruit with the Corning Police Department has been arrested following a domestic violence investigation.
Members of the New York State Police Troop E Violent Crime Investigation Team took Dylan Ellsworth into custody Thursday at the Southern Tier Law Enforcement Academy in Big Flats, where he was training as a police recruit.
State Police say the arrest followed a criminal investigation requested by Corning Police Chief Kenzie Spaulding. The case involves allegations of domestic-related incidents with a former partner that reportedly occurred between August and December of last year. The matter was referred to State Police for an independent review with authorization from the Steuben County District Attorney’s Office.
Ellsworth was transported to the State Police barracks in Painted Post and charged with Criminal Mischief in the third degree, a class E felony. He also faces misdemeanor counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Assault in the third degree, and Criminal Obstruction of Breathing.
He was processed and held pending arraignment in Steuben County Centralized Arraignment Court. Authorities say an order of protection will be requested for the alleged victim and a child. The investigation remains ongoing.
