On Thursday, members of the Auburn Police Department arrested a 37-year-old local woman following a traffic stop involving a rented U-Haul truck.

At approximately 8:59 p.m., officers on routine patrol reportedly observed the vehicle fail to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of Seymour and Washington Streets. Police conducted a traffic stop and identified the driver as Cieara Nickerson of Auburn.

Upon investigation, officers discovered Nickerson was operating the vehicle with a suspended license and that the truck had been rented to another individual who was not present. A subsequent search allegedly revealed two separate quantities of cocaine weighing a combined 29.9 grams, along with $4,997 in cash.

Nickerson was taken into custody and charged with two counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle in the Second Degree, and failing to stop at a stop sign.

Nickerson was transported to the Cayuga County Jail for Centralized Arraignment Proceedings on Friday morning, where she was released on her own recognizance.
