Canandaigua – Shirley R. Carr, age 89, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 2, 2026, after a long illness. She is survived by five children, Susan (Wilfred) Durand, Kenneth Carr (Robin Kline-Carr), Janet (Todd) Johnston, Patrick Carr, and Peter (Lisa) Carr; 14 grandchildren; six great-granddaughters; nieces and nephews; and cousins in England. She was predeceased by her husband, Warren S. Carr, in 2005.
Shirley was born in Birmingham, England, the only child of Frederick and Lilian (Goode) Smith. She met her future husband in France while he was stationed there with the US Army. Shirley and Warren were married in Birmingham in 1957. They came to the United States in 1958 and moved to Canandaigua in 1959. Shirley worked for Messenger-Post Newspapers from 1981 to 2017. She was an accomplished seamstress in England before moving to the United States. Shirley enjoyed traveling, gardening, sewing, and spending time with family.
A graveside service will be held at a later date and time to be announced. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Canandaigua.
