Jon Robert King, age 70, of Newfield, NY, passed away on Saturday, January 3rd, 2026, at 12:45 PM. Jon was born in Cortland, NY, on Oct 4th, 1955, to Warren and Pearl King. Jon graduated from Marathon Central School in 1973 and graduated from Faith Baptist Bible College in Ankeny, Iowa, in 1983 with a Bachelor of Science in Pastoral Studies. Jon married Gail Mason on April 12th, 1975, and following Jon's graduation from Faith Baptist Bible College, he pastored churches in New York and Michigan. After Jon's time in the ministry, he relocated back to his home area in New York.
Jon worked as a CAD Technician for a couple of different engineering firms for several years, and at the time of his passing, he was working at Twin Sheep Dentistry in Ithaca, NY, as a sterilization technician. Jon was world-renowned for his grilling abilities, most specifically when it came to grilling steaks and grilling the King family chicken. Jon loved to help Gail with her massive amounts of beautiful flowers every spring, and he was a skilled woodworker, spending countless hours in his workshop building projects and bird feeders for the birds he and Mom loved to feed. Jon loved to read and was a student of history in general but loved the Civil War era most and read everything he could about the period. Along with reading, Jon was passionate about hot air balloons and Yankees baseball.
Jon was preceded in death by his father, Warren King; mother, Pearl King; and his infant sister, Barbara Jean King. Jon is survived by his wife, Gail (Mason) King; his daughter, Christy Wilcox (spouse Randy Wilcox and his family); his son, Michael King (spouse Anna King); brothers, David King, Larry King (spouse Janice King), Greg King (spouse Margaret King); grandchildren, Anna Johnson (spouse Ricky Clayton), Luke Dendis, Elizabeth Dendis, Ruthie Dendis, Ella King, Gage King, Corbin King; great-grandson, Kai Clayton.
Jon's memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church of Marathon, 5 Park St, Marathon, NY 13803, at 2:00 PM on Saturday, January 17th, 2026. There will be a service only with no calling hours. All funeral flower arrangements should be delivered to First Baptist Church of Marathon the day of the service on January 17th.
