Gladys E. Chaffee

Gladys E. Chaffee, 88, formerly of Montour Falls, NY, passed away on Thursday, January 18, 2024 at Elcor Nursing Home in Horseheads, NY. She was born in the Town of Catharine, NY on May 30, 1935 the daughter of the late William and Gladys (Lisk) Thomas. Gladys was a lifelong homemaker. She babysat and helped raise her friend Anne's children. She enjoyed watching TV, her favorite channel was Hallmark. Gladys loved to sit outdoors in her rocking chair. She loved dogs, especially her dog Cocoa who waited at the rainbow bridge for her, and Anne's dog Rosie. Gladys is survived by her son, Jimmy Chaffee of Watkins Glen; step-daughters, Stephanie and Ida Chaffee; two grandchildren; special friend and caregiver, Anne Centurelli and her children, Darryl, Jessica, Amy and Joshua. She was predeceased by her husband, James Chaffee and a son, David Thomas. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, January 24, 2024 at 1:30 pm at Laurel Hill Cemetery, County Road 10, Alpine, NY. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the Humane Society of Schuyler County, 124 Marina Dr., Montour Falls, NY 14865.
