B. Carolyn (Hicks) Haller, 89, of Odessa, NY, passed away on October 7, 2025, at Seneca View Nursing Facility in Montour Falls, NY. She was born in Alarka, NC, on May 12, 1936, the daughter of the late John Isaac and Alice Rose (Hill) Hicks. The family moved to Erin, NY, in 1937. Carolyn graduated from Horseheads High School in 1952 at the age of 16. She worked at various jobs, including American La France as an Executive Secretary, before meeting Leslie G. Haller and marrying on May 5, 1956. Carolyn and Leslie built their home in Montour Falls, NY, raised four children, and were very active in the community. They were lifetime members of the United Methodist Church (Montour Falls, Odessa, and Erin, NY). Carolyn was also a 60-year member and officer of the Order of the Eastern Star, Fern Chapter 142, Montour Falls.
Forever a consummate reader, Carolyn was also an excellent seamstress, enjoyed gardening, and baking sweet breads on weekends. Once the children were in high school and college, she went back to work at American Demographics Magazine staff and later Tompkins County Hospital, where she retired.
Carolyn is preceded by her husband, Leslie; daughters, Cynthia A. Storms and Mary Lee Johnson; grandson, Josh Haller; brothers, Joe, Carlyle, Ray, and John Hicks; and sister, Annette Courtright. She is survived by daughter, Nancy H. FitzGerald; son, Philip L. Haller; grandsons, Matthew Storms, Jason Storms, Shaun Johnson, Justin Johnson, Anthony Haller; granddaughters, Claire Fitzgerald, Alexandra Fitzgerald, Tomeesha Haller; sister, Cynthia H. Luce; and brother, David Hicks.
Relatives and friends are invited to a memorial service on Monday, November 3, 2025, at 2:00 PM at the Montour Falls United Methodist Church, 124 Owego St., Montour Falls, NY. Interment at the Montour Cemetery will be held privately by the family on November 4, 2025, where Carolyn will be laid to rest with her husband, Leslie, of 66 years.
