Waterloo will have a new Mayor after the March village elections.

Waterloo Democrats this week endorsed Gina Suffredini for the Mayor’s job.  Suffredini is currently on the village board.  She is retired from the Waterloo School District. Suffredini was first elected to the village board in 2009.

Incumbent Mayor Republican Jack O’Connor has announced he will not seek reelection. Walter Bennett has been endorsed by the Waterloo Village Republican Committee.  Bennett is seeking his first ever public office.  Mayor O’Connor’s name will remain on the ballot next Tuesday for the Republican Primary because he announced less than a week from the election that he was not running.

A third mayoral candidate could be selected tonight, or Suffredini or Bennett could be cross-endorsed when Waterloo Conservatives hold their caucus.

The village election will be March 21st.
