Nazareth Women Pick Up Win at Keuka

The Keuka College women’s basketball team hosted Nazareth University on Friday in their second Empire 8 meeting of the season, falling to the Golden Flyers 76-54.

Mary Cotter led the Wolves with 14 points. Brooke Burd and Lillian Mullen each added 11 points for Keuka.

Nazareth (19-4, 13-1 Empire 8) opened the game on a 6-0 run, taking advantage of two early Keuka turnovers. Cotter got the Wolves on the board with a layup. Despite committing five turnovers in the first quarter, Keuka (9-13, 4-10 Empire 8) stayed within striking distance and trailed 16-10 after one.

The Golden Flyers started the second quarter with a 7-0 run before Burd stopped the momentum with a pair of free throws. Keuka did not record a field goal until four minutes into the quarter, when Mullen knocked down a three-pointer. Nazareth capitalized on turnovers throughout the period, scoring nine points off miscues to take a 40-21 lead into halftime.

Keuka found itself in foul trouble early in the third quarter, committing five fouls in the first two-and-a-half minutes. Cotter tried to rally the Wolves, scoring eight points in the quarter, including back-to-back three-pointers midway through the period. The Wolves tightened up defensively late, holding Nazareth scoreless over the final four minutes and closing the quarter on a 13-0 run.

Nazareth regained control in the fourth, opening the period with a 15-6 run over the first five minutes. Keuka was unable to generate a sustained comeback as the Golden Flyers secured the 76-54 win.

KC Notes:

The Wolves move to 10-28 all-time against Nazareth.

With a block against the Golden Flyers, Cotter moved into a tie for 10th place on Keuka’s all-time career blocks list with 46.

Burd’s block moved her into fifth place on the program’s single-season blocks list with 33 and sixth on the career blocks list with 56.

Nazareth finished with 20 points off turnovers.
