Keuka College junior guard Akinlana Popoola (Cleveland, Ohio / Padua Franciscan) was voted Third Team All-Empire 8 Conference by the league’s coaches on Thursday.
Popoola led the Wolves in scoring with 376 points, averaging 15.7 points per game. He made 53 threes which ranked as the ninth-most in a season in program history. He was also efficient shooting the deep ball. His 45.7% three-point shooting ranks as fifth-best at Keuka College. He helped facilitate the offense with at team-leading 72 assists and was a nuisance at the top of the zone on defense with 36 steals.
Overall within Empire 8 Conference games, Popoola ranked fourth in the league with 16.8 points per game in the regular season. He led the league in three-point shooting, making 47.7% of his attempts, and averaged 2.6 threes per game, fifth-best. He also was always on the floor for the Wolves, averaging 34.4 minutes in conference games.
Also honored on Thursday was junior Tyler Green (Sackets Harbor, N.Y. / Sackets Harbor). He was named Keuka College’s representative for Empire 8 Men’s Basketball Sportsman of the Year.
Green was one of 12 from the conference honored. From the conference’s release, “The Empire 8 Conference emphasizes that ‘Competing with Honor and Integrity’ is an essential component of a student-athlete’s experience in conjunction with an institution’s educational mission. These honorees have distinguished themselves and consistently exhibit the critical traits as outstanding sportsmen.”
