Keuka Men’s Soccer Falls 2-1 to Russell Sage

The Keuka College men’s soccer team hosted Russell Sage on Saturday in an Empire 8 matchup, coming up short with a 2-1 loss.

Senior goalkeeper Tyler Spina (Bradford, N.Y./Bradford) tied his collegiate high with seven saves, keeping the Wolves competitive throughout the match.

Both teams traded chances early in the first half. Nicola Costa (Rochester, N.Y./Aquinas Institute) had a strong opportunity, but his shot was stopped by the Sage goalkeeper. Keuka broke through in the 25th minute, when Jariel Ubiles (Seneca Falls, N.Y./Mynderse Academy) scored off an assist from Timothy Cowin (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill) to give the Wolves a 1-0 lead. Despite being outshot 11-7, Keuka held the advantage into halftime.

Russell Sage came out strong in the second half, scoring twice in the first 10 minutes to take a 2-1 lead. The Wolves struggled to respond, recording just six shots in the half and were unable to find an equalizer.
