Planning Underway for Possible Closure of Ontario County Landfill

Planning for the possible closure of the Ontario County landfill will begin this year.

The Finger Lakes Times reports members of the Board of Supervisors’ Planning and Environmental Quality committee were told at its most recent meeting that a study will be done and workshops will be held to explore future waste-deposit options.

The landfill is expected to reach its capacity in 2028, the same year its operating permit with the state expires and contract with the landfill operator expires.
