Former Congressman John Katko’s Campaign Reports Losing $14k to Fraud

The campaign committee of former Congressman John Katko reported losing 14-thousand dollars due to fraud toward the end of last year.

Katko’s committee reported disbursements for fraudulent checks processed through its bank account to the Federal Election Commission. In a letter to the FEC, Katko’s campaign said it is “working with the bank to retrieve the funds. This fraud was external and not caused by committee personnel.”

In January of 2022, Katko announced he would not seek reelection to the house.
