One Union Springs student has earned himself a spot on the United States Junior Olympic Archery team.

17-year old Brandon Stanton will join the team which is composed of the best archers in the nation. The fifth ranked archer in the US for his age group, the senior began seriously training at age 12.

“I feel very accomplished. It’s been my big dream to get on the Jr. Olympic team,” Stanton said.

Stanton plans on attending Alfred State to compete collegiately while attempting his next big goal of qualifying for the US Men’s Senior Olympic team.

“It’s mostly mental,” Stanton added. “If you can’t stand in front of a thousand-plus people and shoot a perfect shot, then you’re out of the game,” he said. “It’s hard to do. It’s different for everybody. For me it’s just doing it over and over again and doing it for yourself. You don’t look at other people – you just do what you do best.”
