A bill written by State Senator Pam Helming that would protect competitive shooting sports in New York has been included in the Governor’s proposed Executive Budget.
The Senator introduced the bill last August to clarify language in the state’s firearms law that does not expressly exempt competitive shooting sports events, often held at local sportsmen’s clubs, as sensitive locations.
The language included in the Executive Budget would make it clear that firearms are still permitted to be used at shooting sports venues and programs, including school-approved shooting teams.
