The stage is set for the race to become Waterloo’s next mayor.
Walter Bennett has officially become the Republican party’s contender for mayor of Waterloo.
Bennett received 82 votes in Tuesday’s primary race after incumbent Jack O’Connor dropped out of the race last week due to health reasons. O’Connor still managed to get 33 votes.
Bennett will face off against Democrat Gina Suffredini to represent the village in March.
