Auburn Clears Up Confusion about Water Quality Public Notice

A public notice issued last week by the City of Auburn has caused some confusion.

On January 5th, the city announced water samples collected at the Nucor sampling location at 33 York Street found disinfection byproducts in the water exceeded EPA standards. This led some to believe the contamination was possibly caused by Nucor Steel.

City Manager Jeff Dygert wanted to clarify at Thursday’s City Council meeting that NUCOR is not responsible.

The EPA requires the city to give public notice when disinfection byproducts exceed 80 parts per billion, however, the water remains safe to drink
