The Yates County Veterans Services Office will be holding a pinning ceremony to honor Vietnam War Veterans in the Penn Yan Academy Auditorium this week.  The ceremony on Saturday in the Penn Yan Academy Auditorium will coincide with Vietnam Veterans Day in Yates County.

“We are holding this ceremony to honor our Vietnam War Veterans on National Vietnam War Veterans Day,” said Yates County Director of Veterans Services Doug Gibbs. “We originally wanted to hold this ceremony at “The Wall That Heals” when it was here last August but could not fit it into the schedule. We are inviting all Vietnam War Veterans to attend as this ceremony is in their honor.”

There will be brief remarks by Gibbs followed by the pinning ceremony. Win Harper and Alan “Herbie” Snyder (both Marines and Vietnam War Veterans) will do the pinning as Gibbs reads each Veterans’ name. All veterans and the public are invited to attend.

There will be a reception at the Johnson-Costello American Legion Post #355 2001 Himrod Road in Penn Yan following the ceremony.

On March 10th, the Yates County Legislature adopted a resolution proclaiming March 29th 2025 as Vietnam Veterans Day in Yates County.
