Yates County Sheriff Spike to Attend State of the Union Address Tuesday

If you watch the President’s State of the Union address Tuesday night, you might see someone very familiar sitting in the gallery of attendees.  Yates County Sheriff Ron Spike has been asked by Congresswoman Claudia Tenney to be her invited guest for the annual address.

“I was surprised yet so honored to get the call from Congresswoman Claudia Tenney’s office to be her guest at the State of the Union this coming Tuesday evening, ” Sheriff Spike wrote in an email. “I am humbled by the opportunity to be actually present and witness such an event that is part of this country’s heritage. I sincerely thank her for recognizing a Sheriff in this matter.”

Sheriff Spike announced earlier this year he would not seek re-election in the fall and would retire after 52 years in law enforcement. He was first elected Yates County Sheriff in 1992.

In a statement, Congresswoman Tenney called Sheriff Spike “an exemplary law enforcement officer and dedicated public servant.” She added that House Republicans are committed to standing up for our brave law enforcement officers, who put their lives on the line every day for our safety.

Congressional Representatives are allowed to have one guest join for the annual State of the Union address.
