Sgt. Blumbergs Retires from Yates County Sheriff’s Office

After a 27-year career with the Yates County Sheriff’s Office, First Sergeant Derek Blumbergs has retired. Sgt. Blumbergs started his career with the sheriff’s office on July 1st, 1996 as a part-time corrections officer. He was promoted to deputy sheriff in March 1999 and then to Sergeant in 2008.

In a post on the Yates County Sheriff’s Office, the following was written about Sgt. Blumbergs:

“Derek served our office and citizens with honor and distinction throughout his career, most recently receiving the American Legion Officer of the Year. Sgt. Blumbergs leaves a legacy of service with a smile, always having a kind word even in times of trouble. Derek’s presence will be missed. We hope you enjoy a long and happy retirement with your family and future endeavors.  Apsveicu un paldies! (Latvian for congratulations and thank you)”
