Two officers at the Elmira Correctional facility were taken to a local hospital after allegedly being attacked by an inmate.
According to the union that represents the officers, the incident began with a random search of the inmate, who initially followed orders. After sitting in the chair, the inmate jumped up and punched both officers in the face. Two other officers came to the aid of their co-workers and forced the inmate to the ground. The injured officers did not return to duty.
The inmate, who is serving a life term after being convicted in 2015 for first-degree murder, first-degree burglary, and second-degree attempted arson in Onondaga County, was placed into a special housing unit.
