Could two neighboring Schuyler County school districts soon merge? The Watkins Glen School Board has reached out to their counterparts at Odessa-Montour about a possibility of a merger.
The Odessa File reports the discussion of a merger surfaced at this week’s Watkins Glen School Board meeting during a vote to combine the two schools’ varsity softball teams due to low numbers on the O-M side. The two schools have already merged a half-dozen sports programs due to low participation numbers.
Superintendent Kai D’Alleva said merging with Odessa-Montour would not be about saving money but instead it would be about creating greater opportunities for students in both districts.
