Among the many exciting events happening this year as the Friends of the Outlet celebrates its 40th Anniversary is Saturday’s Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at the new Hopeton Campground. Scheduled from 12:00-2:00 PM and located at 1025 Hopeton Road in Penn Yan, the new primitive campground sits in a pristine woodland on a ridge overlooking the Keuka Outlet Trail just east of the Hopeton parking area and trail access point. It features three tent platforms and one lean-to.
Creating this new outdoor opportunity has been in the planning stages for approximately 20 years, making the ribbon-cutting ceremony a culmination of hundreds of hours of volunteer community service and collaboration. The project was supported by a Yates County TAC grant. Appropriately, the first campers will be a group of local scouts from Troop #444 who will be part of the Ribbon Cutting Program by offering a few outdoor demonstrations. Appropriately, May 4th is also New York State’s “I Love My Park Day.”
Saturday’s participants will be asked to play “20 KOT Questions,” which involves the dynamic history, geology, and glorious beauty of the trail. The person who gets the most correct answers to the questions will be given a gift basket at the celebration
