Almost two months after Yates County Sheriff’s K9 Deputy Kinni’s unexpected passing, the Yates County Sheriff’s Office has received a donation for the purchase of a new canine deputy. A check for $9,000 was presented to Sheriff Ron Spike by Mary Starkweather on behalf of the Penn Yan Volunteer Ambulance Corps.

The donation will be used towards the purchase of a police working dog to replace K9 Kinni who died unexpectedly on August 16th while undergoing emergency surgery. His handler Deputy Brandon Jensen lost his forever partner.

Sheriff Spike said, “On behalf of our K9 unit we have great gratitude to the Penn Yan Ambulance Corps directors and members for this generous donation for us to purchase a new K9 police working dog. This is not the first time they have supported our K9 unit helping us replace a K9. They have our sincere thanks for this donation and their commitment to public safety in our community.”
