A Penn Yan woman was sentenced to six months in jail and five years probation for a fatal accident that happened in September of 2024 in Yates County.

Sarah Olsen pleaded guilty on January 7th to a felony charge of leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death on September 19th on State Route 364 in Benton. Olsen was driving her GMC Acadia when she hit a 15-month-old Mennonite boy, who walked away from family members and made it to the road unattended and unaccompanied.

The Yates County Sheriff’s Office investigation determined Olsen to be the suspect and she was arrested the next day.
