The Odessa Fire Department performed a cold water rescue Sunday morning following a car crash on State Route 13 near the Schuyler and Chemung County line. The call came in just before 10 o’clock for a motor vehicle crash with a rollover and a patient in the waterway after rescuing themselves from the car.
After rescuing the individual, the fire department turned the patient over to EMS.
The fire department in a post on Facebook said the driver had a smart watch that contacted 9-1-1. The location of the crash was very difficult to see from the road making this connection a critical component of the rescue.
