Fatal House Fire in Bath Remains Under Investigation

State Police have released information about a fatal house fire that occurred in the town of Bath last week.

When Troopers arrived on the scene at 6003 Bonny Hill Road they made entry into the home but had to retreat because of the heavy smoke. After firefighters put out the fire, they located the home’s resident, Joyce Kautz, deceased in her bedroom.

Investigators still do not know the cause.

Steuben County Fire, the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office, the Bath Fire Department, the Bath VA Fire Department, and the Bath Volunteer Ambulance Corp assisted State Police at the scene.
