Goodbye, Senecas, and hello “Lake Hawks.”
Moving forward the Watkins Glen School District’s mascot will be the “Lake Hawks.” The School District was one of a handful of schools forced by the state to eliminate Indian mascots and imagery from school mascots. Students and other members of the school district selected the Lake Hawks after whittling it down from 16 other new mascot names.
A small committee of faculty and administration will begin the mascot design process this summer. In the fall, the school will seek student input with plans to have the new mascot designed by fall or early winter.
